Botox NYC

When we make expressions, the muscles in our faces contract, resulting in movement of, and creases in, the overlying skin. As skin loses its elasticity with age, those lines and folds become visible when the face is at rest. This can result in the face appearing older or a constant angry or stressed expression. BOTOX is a medication that relaxes muscles.

When used for cosmetic purposes in the facial expression muscles, BOTOX reduces movement and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. BOTOX is also popular among people under thirty years, as everyone has different habits of facial expression and different facial aging issues.

How Many Units of BOTOX Will I Require?

The number of units used per injection site depends on your specific needs, your history with neuromodulators, and the number of areas being treated. During your initial consultation with Dr. Strachan, we can help you determine the number of units required to help you reach your goals

How Soon Before I See Results?

Results from BOTOX are often apparent in several hours but typically start after 2-3 days. The full effect may take up to two weeks to materialize. Once maximum results are realized, they will remain for typically up to 4 months. Expect to do maintenance treatments at our comfortable NYC office.  Some people find that with regular Botox treatments that the may require them less frequently over time as their muscles are trained not to contract so strongly.

Is BOTOX Safe?

First approved for cosmetic use in the United States in 2002, BOTOX has been safely used on millions of people worldwide for decades. The most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment for several years, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers have undergone treatment with BOTOX with no to minimal side effects.

Some redness and swelling at the injection site are common following treatment. This can easily be addressed with proper aftercare. Less common complications, including headache and ptosis (forehead droop), typically self-resolve.

Will My Face Look Frozen?

BOTOX interrupts the signal between the muscle and the nerve. This prevents tension and allows the overlying skin to smooth. BOTOX does not paralyze the muscle and should not interfere with facial expression or movement.

What is the Difference Between BOTOX and Dermal Fillers?

BOTOX is a neuromodulator. It works by interrupting signals between muscles and nerves to allow the skin to relax. This makes it ideal for areas where volume loss is not an issue.

Dermal fillers address volume loss, restoring a fuller and softer look to places such as the cheeks, temples, and underneath the eyes. Dermal fillers are more commonly used in folds. Fillers are also used in the lips and around the mouth.

While both products can address various lines and wrinkles throughout the face. They are fundamentally different and cannot be used for the same purposes. They can, however, be used in combination for complete facial rejuvenation.

Botox NYC – Cost

We will be able to inform you of the cost of your Botox treatment after your consultation with Dr. Strachan. She must first examine you to determine where you need treatment and how many units it will require.  If you are considering Botox for a medical reason, such as excessive sweating, we will help determine whether the treatment will be covered by your insurance.

Botox on black skin

Although African Americans have a reputation for appearing younger than their stated age, many black people with strong facial expression muscles will develop wrinkles on their faces. If you have been looking for black Botox doctors near me in New York City, Dr. Strachan is among the best. At Aglow Dermatology, we treat people of all skin types. We are also experts in Botox for African American skin.

Botox for sweating

After the cosmetic use of Botox, another popular treatment is Botox for sweating. This works because sweat is pushed out of sweat glands by small muscles. Botox for excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is an FDA-approved indication. We most commonly use it in the armpits, but Botox can also be used for sweating in the palms or soles. Many patients wonder if Botox for sweating is covered by insurance. It commonly is. We determine that after you have a consultation with Dr. Strachan.

What should I expect at my treatment?

BOTOX treatments take just a few minutes, do not require anesthesia, and have minimal downtime allowing you to return to work and continue your day immediately after. Sometimes, however, there is mild bruising shortly after treatment. Over the next several days after treatment, the smoothing effects of BOTOX begin to appear. Maximum effects of a BOTOX treatment can be seen after approximately two weeks. The results of injections can last approximately four to six months, but over time treatments may become less frequent as muscles are “trained” to remain relaxed, allowing the Botox injection results to last longer.
